Black Friday is almost here, and that means that many Australians will be gearing up to shop the sales at their favourite retailers.
Whether you're eager to get Christmas gifts sorted early or hoping to enhance your summer wardrobe, Black Friday can seem like the perfect opportunity to treat yourself and your loved ones for less.
On average, Australians spend about $400 on Black Friday deals each year. This translates into a lot of new items being brought into our homes , which leads to clutter, overflowing wardrobes, and often a few of our past purchases - perhaps even from last Black Friday - being thrown away.
This year, Salvos Stores have partnered with Green Friday to promote a more conscious, sustainable alternative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday spending. However, we know that avoiding mainstream retailers and their big, red 'SALE' signs completely over this period won't necessarily work for everyone. This is why we're suggesting another way that you can contribute to reducing waste this Black Friday - by participating in our 'Secondhand Saturday' initiative.
On Saturday the 26th of November, the day after Black Friday, we will be running 'Secondhand Saturday'. On this day, we are encouraging everyone - regardless of which colour Friday you shopped on - to give the preloved items they no longer need a new life by donating them to Salvos Stores.
By making a donation on Secondhand Saturday, you can clear space in your home for any new sale purchases by contributing to the circular economy, not landfill.
To donate, either head to your local Salvos Store or send your donations to us via post - we'll cover the delivery fee!
Wherever there is hardship or injustice, Salvos will live, love and fight alongside others, to transform Australia one life at a time with the love of Jesus
