Salvos Christmas Appeal 2024

14/10/2024

Christmas is the busiest time of the year for many of our service centres. Our teams work hard to go above and beyond to ensure Christmas is a time for celebration and not a time of crisis.

That’s why we are appealing for donations which, in addition to the profits generated from the items you purchase through our store network, will enable us to help those who need it most.

Q: Where do the funds go?

A: Too many people in our community are going without food, medication and utilities, and many more don’t even have housing. In lots of cases, this means there is no Christmas for families doing it tough. This is where we step in, providing food, presents, support with bills and safe housing.

Christmas Appeal funds help The Salvation Army deliver vital community programs and social services, such as:

Emergency financial assistance

• Food and gift hampers • Toys for children who might go without presents • Refuge for women and children in crisis • Shelters for those facing homelessness • Emergency and disaster relief • Drug and alcohol addiction recovery and rehabilitation support • And much more!

Q: How does the Christmas Appeal help?

A: All funds raised through the Christmas Appeal help vulnerable Aussies facing crisis, hardship or isolation. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, over the last year, The Salvation Army:

Helped three people every minute Assisted over 250,000 people across all social programs Provided 1.2 million nights of accommodation Assisted over 10,000 women and children experiencing family and domestic violence. Provided 1.63 million meals to people who assessed our homelessness services Distributed $8.3 million of financial assistance to those Impacted by disaster

Q: Does my donation go directly toward providing a meal?

A: We are all about collective impact so whether your donation goes toward providing someone in need with a warm meal or toward supporting one of our many programs & services you can be assured we are ensuring that we do the most good possible with your generosity.

Q: Do profits from my purchases not already go toward supporting The Salvation Army’s programs & services?

A: Yes, profits from your purchases go toward supporting The Salvation Army’s vital programs & services. But with there being more demand for our support, we are always in need of additional funding.

Q: Do I have to donate $10?

A: These are simply suggested donation amounts. When it comes to your donations, every little helps so whether that means donating $2 or $200 your support is always appreciated.

$10 will provide someone in need with a hearty meal this Christmas, donations below this will cover a portion of this cost.

Please note however that to claim tax deductible donations on your tax return, your donation must be $2 or more.
